Junior Infants A & B had so much fun celebrating World Book Day. The boys and girls looked fantastic dressed up as their favourite characters from different books. We had loads of fun talking about our favourite stories and taking some time to read.
Take a look at our fantastic costumes.....
The boys and girls have been having so much fun in the past few weeks learning all about the hospital. They have been working as nurses and doctors, performing surgeries on their patients and taking x-rays. The children have also been busy building hospitals, ambulances and medical instruments.
It is safe to say the future of the health care system is in great hands!!
Take a look at Junior Infants A & B in action!
Junior Infants A performed the story of 'The Little Red Hen' for assembly on Friday. We had groups of pigs, ducks, cats, little red hens and narrators. The boys and girls put in lots of hard work rehearsing their lines and making masks. Everyone was very impressed and we all had loads of fun!
Junior Infants A and B created lovely Valentine's card for their loved ones on Valentine's Day.
It was a great opportunity for them to practise their handwriting skills too.
They all did a great job!
Here are some photos of Junior Infants B creating their cards.
Both classes are really enjoying learning about the building site in Aistear at the moment.
It is proving to be a very popular and enjoyable topic. As always we are constantly looking for bits and bobs for our junk art stations for Aistear so please continue to bring in anything you have!
If parents have completed the vetting process with the school please let the class teacher know that you have been fully vetted and further times for participation in Aistear can be arranged!
In the meantime here are some photos of Junior Infants B enjoying Aistear last week.
Since we have returned from the Christmas holidays the children in both classes have begun writing in their copies.
This is a big step as they are beginning to copy work down from the board all by themselves. They will try to do this a couple of times during the week.
As you can see from the two pictures of Rory's class they are working extremely hard and are really trying their best. They are working on the 3Ps of writing; pencil, paper and posture. Are they holding the pencil correctly? Are they holding their paper properly? Are the sitting the right way with both legs on the floor as they write? They are also using the hand that they do not write with to create finger spaces between their words.
As you can see from the photos they are really concentrating and working hard.
We have been learning all about the post office over the past number of weeks in Aistear.
Both Junior Infants A and B decided to send a special card to Angela and Mel to thank both for all of the work they do.
We decided to post the letter at the post office. We walked all the way from Kilnagleary to Carrigaline Post Office. We waved at the people who worked behind the counter at the post office and we posted our letters.
Angela and Mel were so excited when they received their letters that they came into each classroom to thank the boys and girls especially.
We really enjoyed our last week of term one as we also had a disco with Senior Infants in the halla on Thursday to celebrate all of our hard work. We had a great time!
Niamh and Rory hope that everybody really enjoys their Christmas holidays and we will see all back in school on January 8th.
Enjoy the time away from school and Happy New Year!
For the past number of weeks the children of Junior Infants B have had a classroom elf. They decided to call him Pip.
Every day when they come into the classroom they have found him in a different place. He has been keeping an eye on all of the boys and girls making sure that they are trying their best, working hard and being kind to one another.
So far he has been very pleased and he has delivered elf reports every morning into his special mail box for the boys and girls.
He only has a couple of days left in the classroom before he goes away so we will enjoy our last few days with him.
In the meantime we hope you like the photos of the class finding Pip every morning.
Last Friday Junior Infants A and B visited the Carrigaline library. We walked down from the school with a partner and used the Safe Cross Code to walk to the library correctly.
When we reached the library we were met by Mary the librarian. She explained to us that the library is cool and it is free. She gave Rory and Niamh library membership forms that can be collected from the classrooms by parents. Parents can fill out the membership forms and return them to the library. People are able to take up to 12 books from the library at any time.
After Mary spoke to us the children had some time to look at books in the library and then Rory read the story 'Stuck' by Oliver Jeffers.
We had a really wonderful day at the library. If any parents would like membership forms for the Carrigaline library please ask Niamh or Rory for them.
Thank you to all of the parents who have visited both classrooms over the past number of weeks to help with Aistear. The children have really benefitted and enjoyed having you in the classrooms. If you wish to partake in Aistear please inform the class teacher. Every parent can visit for one Aistear session and if you would like to come for Aistear on a more continuous basis please fill in a Garda vetting form from the office and return it to Angela.
Our next Aistear topic is 'The Post Office'. We will be learning all of the vocabulary this week in school so parents are not needed this week in the classroom. We will be engaging in this topic for the rest of this month and the beginning of January.
In the meantime check out this wonderful restaurant that some children from Junior Infants B created with the help of Bodhi's Dad!
